| Simplified method for canvas mounting and cloth
backing |
| 1. |
Sand and remove all greasy
substances (impurities) from surfaces to be mounted with canvas
or to be cloth backed. |
| 2. |
Using a brush, apply 2 or 3
coats of undiluted glue E.4038 until a sufficiently thick coat
is obtained giving a glossy or varnished aspect to the wood.
Allow for one hour between 2 coats. The final drying time is
approximately an hour. |

When the glue is dry, position
the DIATEX fabric on the surface to be covered and staple or
pin it on the sides. |
| 4. |
Using a paint brush moistened
with a mixture of the glue E.4038 strongly diluted with the
thinner E.4930 (50%), tap down on the parts of the DIATEX cloth
resting on the wood (you can reposition the cloth, if necessary,
at this time). Insist so that the glue passes through the cloth.
This will reactivate the glue previously deposited on the wood.
Do not glue a cloth with small folds because these folds will
not disappear either by appling heat or sealing compound .... |

Repeat operation no. 4 (but
this time with a mixture diluted 25-30 % with the thinner E.4930).
Then wait until everything is dry. |

Remove the staples or the pins.
Glue with the glue E.4038 (diluted up to 20 % maximum with the
thinner E.4930) those parts extending over the edges. Cut off
a piece if the fabric extends too far over. Wait until everything
is dry. |
| 7. |
Using a fabric mounting iron,
thermally shrink and stretch the fabric. Rapidly pass the iron
over all the fabric and then return to those parts less stretched
or folded. Raise the iron’s temperature little by little
after each pass. You can control this with our canvas mounting
thermometer. Stop restretching as soon as the fabric seems sufficiently
stretched.
Never apply the iron to the fabric above
a temperature of 180° C.
Sometimes the iron’s tip has to be successfully reapplied
to remove the most persistent folds.
WARNING : Pass on the upper surface and
then the under surface, and after raising the temperature repeat
this operation. Never insist on only one surface because the
fabric's retraction force will twist or curl up the wing
or possibly another part. |

Then apply the first coat of
a mixture of colorless tension sealing compound E.4034 (80 %)
and glue E.4038 (20 %) with 10 % maximum in thinner E.4930 over
the entire canvas mounted surface. Use a flat brush or a roller
(spray gun application prohibited) to apply the mixture. The
glue will favor the adhesion of the tension sealing compound
on the cloth. |

Position the evacuation holes
and make the inspection holes, if necessary, by gluing the reinforcement
rings for the future inspection trapdoors. |
| 10. |
Apply a second coat of tension
sealing compound E.4034 diluted to 10 % maximum with the thinner
E.4930 (and without glue). Allow 1 hour before applying the
next coat. |
| 11. |
Apply a third coat of tension
sealing compound E.4034 diluted to 10 % maximum with the thinner
E.4930. The final drying time is 2 to 3 hours. |
| 12. |
Once dry, use a 180 to 240
grain sandpaper to sand the entire surface. |
| 13. |
Using a clean cloth moistened
with the thinner E 4930, rub the entire surface to remove any
impurities and make sure the surface is in good condition. |
| 14. |
Apply a first coat of the aluminum
tension sealing compound E.4731 over the entire surface. Using
a roller or preferably a spray gun, apply the first coat diluted
to 25-30 % maximum with the thinner E.4930.
The aluminum tension sealing compound
E.4731 should not be used if the primary and finish paints are
manufactured by us since one of the properties of this system
is the stopping of U.V. radiation. |

Apply a second coat of the
aluminum tension sealing compound E.4731. Using a roller or
a spray gun, apply a coat diluted to 25-30 % maximum with the
thinner E.4930. The second coat may be applied 10 minutes after
the first. The final drying time is 1 hour. |

Repeat operations 12 and 13. |
| 17. |
Using a 320 to 400 grain or
finer sandpaper, sand the entire surface. |
| 19. |
Using a spray gun, apply the
primary system according to our technical documentations. |
| 20. |
Using a clean cloth, vigorously
rub until the entire surface shines. |
| 21. |
Then apply the system of paints
according to our technical documentations. |
The use of primary and finish paint systems
other than those recommended by us could pose the following
problems for you :
- The loss of tension in the fabric or its destruction (chemical
aggression) ;
- Crackings, prohibitive weights, unlamination of the products,...
The canvas mounting parameters are given for a relative humidity
of 50-60 % in a temperature range of 21 - 23° C.
- If the temperature is higher, the times may be reduced ;
- If the temperature is lower, they have to be increased ;
- Do not glue when the relative humidity is higher than indicated
above ; the glue will become whitish ;
- If the relative humidity is higher, the times must be increased
because the evaporation of the solvents of the tension sealing
compounds is slower.
- If the relative humidity is lower, the times will hardly vary.
The number of coats of glue and sealing compound is given on
the basis of the DIATEX 2000 cloth.
- They will be reduced for the DIATEX 1500 and 1000 cloths.
Our aeronautical paints are sold
at a price given in Euros/kg. If you want to compare them with
paints for cars or trucks, even though this seems surprising,
compare the prices by adjusting them to Euros/m² ; you
will be completely amazed !!! Indeed, an aeronautical paint
can cover up to 2 times more surface than another kind of paint
due to the fact that the dry extract is much weaker and the
final weight clearly much lower !
